Edinburgh University boss Dorian Ogunro has admitted his forward-thinking players need to shoulder some of the responsibility for the position the club find themselves in.

The students currently occupy third bottom in the Lowland League having amassed just 11 points from their 23 matches to date.

And Ogunro believes his side would be in a much more favourable position if they could improve their conversion rate in front of goal.

Ahead of tomorrow’s trip across the Border to face Berwick Rangers at Shielfield Park, Ogunro said: “Last week against Bonnyrigg we played really well in the first half and probably should have gone in at half-time ahead.

“We should have at least scored two.

“It would have been interesting to see us go in at the break with a lead.

“But our biggest problem this season is we aren’t taking what I would call clear-cut chances to score. We have to at least hit the target to give ourselves a chance.

“Defenders get absolutely hammered when they make mistakes and cost the team goals so the same applies to those further up the pitch who aren’t taking these opportunities.

“I wasn’t very kind to them at half-time against Bonnyrigg last week but if they want to play at this level then they have to do things right.

“They weren’t half-chances, they were gilt-edged.”

Orgunro is hoping his side turn over a new leaf starting tomorrow.

“Last time we played Beriwck at home, again we played well but didn’t take our chances,” he said. “If we can be a bit smarter then we’ve definitely got a chance of picking up the points down there.

“Berwick have found out, like East Stirlingshire did when they dropped down, that this is a tough league and you can’t just expect to bounce straight back up again.

“I just hope we go there and do ourselves justice.”
