Murrayfield Racers saw off old rivals Kirkcaldy Kestrels completing an excellent weekend on the road in the Scottish National League with a 5-2 win in Fife last night, with both Kirkcaldy goals coming in the game’s final minutes.

Recent signing Rolands Dietlavs led the way with a hat-trick for the Edinburgh side, with Garry Simpson and captain Joel Gautschi also on target. The victory comes hot on the heels of Saturday’s 7-0 win at North Ayrshire Wild.

Racers’ director of hockey Tony Hand was understandably pleased with his side’s efforts and said: “We talked about playing smart road games this weekend and that’s what we did. I thought tonight we could have scored a few more, but Kirkcaldy’s goalie had a very good game.

“I’m pleased that over the two games we only conceded two goals, but there are things that we can sharpen up on, like our powerplay which we’ll be looking to work on this week ahead of Sunday’s Scottish Cup semi-final first leg at Dundee Tigers.”

Racers now sit on 27 points from 14 games, second place in the table and three points behind champions elect, Solway Sharks.
