Eleven year old Sunny Doig is not only the pride of Bonnyrigg but the UK too.
Sunny was crowned the over 52kg British Minors Judo Champion at Meadowbank on Sunday, October 9.
The Minors title was open to children in the 10 to 11 year age group.
The youngster is already holder of the Scottish National title which she won last November in the age group. She also recently won the Scottish Grand Prix title following her displays in various competitions over the past year.
A P7 pupil at Hawthornden Primary School, Sunny is a member of Just Judo, which is based at Lasswade Community Hub.
Mum Jillian said: ‘‘Judo is Sunny’s life, attending four sessions a week, with her two pet Boxers taking up the remainder.’’
Jillian added: ‘‘Sunny is a big girl for her age and she is absolutely solid and powerful, that is why she has excelled at the sport.’’
While talk of competing for Scotland in future Commonwealth Games events is premature, Scottish Judo has included the youngster in their National Talent and Development Squad this season which meets regularly at the EICA Ratho.
Sunny’s brothers Finlay (13) and Alister (9) also compete in the sport with Finlay the British Pre-Cadet bronze medallist while Alister is Scottish silver medallist in his age group.
Mum and dad Martin agree their children have great fun competing at judo and praise both the club, its coaches and the facilities at Lasswade Community Hub.
