MIDLOTHIAN man Bill Gray has returned home as World Senior Curling Champion after playing third stones in the Irish men’s team who sensationally downed the favouites Canada in the nailbiting final of the World Senior Curling Championships.
Fifty-two-year old Bill, who farms at Rosemains, near Pathhead, played a major part in the team’s surprise win and curls regularly at Murrayfield Ice Rink for his home club of Oxenfoord.
He is also the current President of the Irish Curling Association.
He said: “ To have the opportunity to curl in a world championship is one thing but to come home with a gold medal is something I could only have dreamt about”
Ireland – one of the world’s smallest curling nations – proved that it’s quality not quantity which counts. when they defeated Canada by 6-5 after an extra end in the champsionships, held at the Taarnby Curling Arena in Copenhagen last month.
