Rugby: Denton returns to scene of his ‘best’ try

DAVID DENTON returns tonight to the scene of not just his only Heineken European Cup try so far, but “definitely the best I have ever scored” when Edinburgh Rugby visit Racing Metro in Paris.

The Stade Yves du Manoir has particularly happy memories for Denton, right, as it was also where he probably clinched a first appearance in the RBS Six Nations Championship, against England, a few weeks later with a stunning display in last January’s 27-24 win.

Since then, Denton has enhanced his reputation as a destroyer by running over All Blacks captain Richie McCaw in a Murrayfield Test, but it is the next up outing which keeping him preoccupied.

“There were a lot of tries scored in the two matches where we beat Racing Metro last season, but I’d settle for a 3-0 win this time,” said Denton.

“Our team are coming off the back of two league wins and want to keep momentum going.

“To beat Racing home and away for the second successive season would be a great boost going into our festive double-header with Glasgow.”
