Rugby: Edinburgh’s Matt Scott to stay two more years

Matt SCOTT’S debut season with Edinburgh Rugby goes from strength with the former Currie star today putting pen to paper on a deal that will keep him at his hometown club until 2014.

The stand off/centre, who celebrated his 21st birthday with a try which helped defeat Rabo Direct Pro 12 League champions Munster at Murrayfield, is the latest in a string of up-and-comings to commit.

And, almost certainly in the course of making eight starts and five substitute appearances during Edinburgh’s 17 games so far, he is now on course to add to age-group honours by earning a Scotland A cap on the way to what many believe will be a full international career.

All the while Scott, who came of age in helping achieve European Cup wins over London Irish, Racing Metro and Cardiff so far this season, has had to juggle rugby with law degree studies at Edinburgh University.

Today’s signing comes within a week of promising stand offs Gregor Hunter and Harry Leonard extending in a season where Greig Laidlaw, David Denton, Stuart McInally, Sean Cox and Steven Turnbull have also re-signed.

Meanwhile, Currie limbered up for the return of the Premiership at home to Boroughmuir on Saturday by thrashing Lasswade 91-7 in a Regional Cup tie.
