Rugby: Muir back on track thanks to win away at Aberdeen

Robbie Wilson had a converted try and Malcolm Clapperton joined him on the score sheet as ’Muir reached the break 12-10 ahead. Both sides had a man sent off – Greig Scott the culprit for ’Muir – before the hosts edged ahead. However, a score from Keith Buchan and an injury time counter by Ally Warnock sealed all five league points for the Meggetland men.

At the Greenyards, a converted try by Richard Snedden gave Currie a 7-3 interval lead over Melrose and although the Malleny Park men tightened their grip when Simeon James bagged a converted score, the Borderers battled back with tries from Fraser Thomson, Jamie Murray and Andrew Skeen, before a converted touchdown by Mike Entwhistle allowed Currie to salvage a merited narrow defeat bonus point from the 26-21 loss.

Heriot’s are still seeking their first league points after going down 29-20 to Stirling County at Goldenacre. Tries from Rory Carmichael and Jason Hill, plus the reliable boot of Graham Wilson, left Heriot’s 20-14 ahead with 25 minutes to play, but three touchdowns for Stirling left the hosts empty handed.

Elsewhere, Stewart’s Melville went down in 36-14 to Hillhead/Jordanhill and Watsonians hammered Jedforest 78-3 in the National League.

Musselburgh top Championship B after taking all five points from their 28-10 win at Murrayfield Wanderers. James Murray led the way with a hat trick and Andrew Cook scored the remaining ’Burgh try, while Johnny Lyons and Barry Turnbull touched down for Wanderers.

Lasswade also made it two wins from two when tries from Neil Clark, Niall Gray and Gavin Brown, who also kicked seven points, produced a 22-14 win at Kirkcaldy. Meanwhile, tries by James Ferguson and Graham Paris were not enough to prevent a second successive defeat for Haddington, this time by 30-18 away to Peebles.

RHC Cougars returned from their trip to Langholm in East Division 1 with a 38-15 win to their credit. The remaining four matches produced bonus point home wins for Livingston, Preston Lodge, Portobello and Linlithgow.

Trinity Accies saw off local rivals Edinburgh Northern in Division 2, while Dalkeith and Lismore also posted wins, although Ross High were squeezed out by Earlston and Forrester lost heavily at Hawick Quins.

Meanwhile, Penicuik, Inverleith and Broughton kicked off their Division 3 campaigns with wins, but Queensferry lost their opener at home to St Boswells.
