Leith and Inverleith set for promotion

LEITH and Inverleith both won on Saturday in RBS East Three to ensure promotion with the destination of the title to be decided this coming weekend when they play their final matches.

Their victories over Moray House and Broughton respectively leaves them both on 73 points with Leith just ahead on points difference.

This Saturday Leith are at St Boswells while Inverleith are at Wardie to take on Broughton.

At the weekend Leith were in fine form to see off Moray House 77-5. Dave Robertson led the way with his fifth hat-trick of tries of the season.

Inverleith defeated Broughton 16-6 with Johnny Davidson getting all the points.

In the other match in the division Liberton won 26-15 at Penicuik.

In East One Preston Lodge ended up with 14 wins and four defeats and a second-placed finish after they defeated Langholm 38-15.

Lismore had a day to forget in East Two, being beaten 117-12 at home to title chasers Hawick Harlequins.

At the Edinburgh Northern Sevens in Inverleith Park a great day was had by all and Musselburgh eventually won the cup.

They played some great sevens all day and in the final they were on top form to see off Edinburgh Accies 31-0 to allow James Doig to lift the trophy.

Portobello defeated Dalkeith to win the Plate while charity team the Pigbarians, featuring Currie skipper Mark Cairns, defeated Watsonians to win the Bowl.

Also on Saturday, North Berwick won their own sevens event for the first time since 1997, defeating Duns in the final.

And yesterday Watsonians won the Berwick Sevens at Scremerston, beating Melrose 50-12 in the final.

The ‘Sonians squad included a number of young players such as George Watson’s College’s Scotland under-18 cap Neil Irvine Hess, Ramsay Young and Clarke Smith.
