Skipper hails Currie's will to win as home play-off secured

Weston was the man who bagged the vital try as Currie overhauled a Gala outfit needing a win to escape the bottom two.

Currie had finished well in their BT Cup exit the previous week and resumed in the same vein, dominating the first half hour of Saturday’s clash. It would have been easy for our heads to go down when Gala scored,” said Weston. “It was just an enormous amount of character to stick to the game plan and sneak a try.”

Elsewhere, Watsonians continued their march towards the BT National Division One title when they took all five points from a 43-17 win away to Kelso. The result leaves Sonians 11 points clear of Marr, who have a game in hand.

Edinburgh Accies bagged six tries as they produced a 39-17 win that ensures the Raeburn Place men will finish in fifth spot. Stewart’s Melville suffered a 25-14 loss away to basement side Aberdeen Grammar, while Musselburgh were on the wrong end of a 30-17 result at Peebles.

A 23-12 loss away to Ardrossan Accies means Lasswade have again slipped into the bottom two in Division Three and requiring an unlikely sequence of results to beat the drop. Meanwhile, Preston Lodge lost 41-31 away to third-placed Aberdeenshire. Haddington’s outside hopes of promotion from Division Three were extinguished by an 18-17 defeat at Livingston. RHC Cougars returned from Orkney with a narrow defeat bonus point after going down 20-18.
