Snooker: Leslie set for double dose of semi-finals

Bonnyrigg snooker star Michael Leslie is gearing up for a busy weekend after reaching the semi-finals of this season’s third ranking events of the Scottish Under-21 and Main Tour Series.

Tomorrow, the 18-year-old will play Musselburgh’s Ross Muir in the semi-final of the Under-21 event with the winner playing either Eden Sharav (Alloa) or Scott Donaldson (Perth) in the final later in the day.

Leslie produced a solid display as he won all four of his qualifying matches to win his group before whitewashing Perth’s Ethan Laing 3-0 to secure his place in the semi-final.

Qualification also means that Leslie has now done enough to ensure he will represent Scotland at the European Under-21 Championships in Bulgaria this coming March, where he will also be joined by Sharav and Donaldson in a strong Scotland contingent.

On Sunday, Leslie will have much less distance to travel as Event 3 of the Main Tour Series comes to its conclusion at the Locarno Snooker Club in Edinburgh. Leslie reached the semi-final in style with a 4-2 defeat of Scotland’s No.1 ranked player, James McBain (Glasgow), who had won the first two events of the season.
