Speedway: Monarchs up against clock

Edinburgh MONARCHS have just 24 hours left to find a suitable replacement for
Aussie Sam Masters, who has been refused a visa to ride in the UK this season.

Danish rider Claus Vissing, whose average is only 0.01 higher than Masters’, is the
favoured candidate.

Vissing attended Monarchs’ press day on Friday and talks continued over the weekend. He returned to Denmark yesterday and is awaiting the call, but Monarchs co-promoter John Campbell revealed there is a major obstacle to overcome.

He said: “Claus wants to base himself close to Armadale and we have not as yet been able to find suitable accommodation for him, and in a perfect world this would include a garage that he could use as a workshop.”

Monarchs have until tomorrow before they must re-declare their team for Friday’s opening fixture against Berwick Bandits.
