Unbeaten Kool Kats must be wary of Glasgow Uni

The Capital's only unbeaten senior basketball team, Edinburgh Kool Kats, will be looking to extend their run when they travel to play Glasgow University in the second round of the Scottish Women's Cup at the Stevenson Building on Sunday at 1.30pm.

Kats are three points clear at the top of the Scottish League table which the students prop up but Kats veteran coach Graham Gunn will be wary of taking anything for granted after their league trip there last month.

GU led for much of the game and it was only in the final quarter that Kats took control to win by 10.

Events this week will serve as further warning as GU shocked near-neighbours and fellow rookies Glasgow Fever 52-47 away to record their first ever Scottish League win then travelled to beat EU 2nds 54-39 in the Scottish Universities Championship at the Pleasance the following night.

EU were without four players including Holly Gordon who stepped up to the firsts to score four three-pointers in their nerve-wracking 75-74 overtime win over Newcastle in the BUCS Northern Premier Division game beforehand.

Natalie Bastion also had four threes and led EU with 24 points.

Tonight EU men travel to Paisley to face second-placed St Mirren at the Lagoon SC at 8.15pm while Edinburgh Kings travel to the Peak Centre to play Stirling Knights (8pm) and unbeaten leaders Falkirk Fury host Tayside Musketeers (8pm).

Tomorrow champions Boroughmuir Blaze bid to get their title quest back on course away to Glasgow University men at 11.30am while Dunfermline Reign host Glasgow Storm at 3.30pm.
