Watsonians reward Martin Versfeld for fine seconds form

Martin Versfeld has been recalled to the Watsonians side for tomorrow's CSL Eastern Premiership clash with Stoneywood-Dyce after taking nine wickets in his last two matches for the second team.

Since joining the Myreside men over the winter he has made two top team league outings and is set to get another run out for the league leaders this weekend.

Versfeld took five wickets for the second XI in Baillie Gifford East One against Clackmanan County on June 25 and eight days ago followed that up with four scalps in the victory over Murrayfield DAFS.

He comes into the Watsonians team along with fellow all-rounder Brendan O’Connell, who has missed the last three weeks and whose spin bowling could be crucial in the title run in.

Ahead of the home meeting with winless Stoneywood-Dyce, captain Ewan Chalmers said: “It was frustrating to see last week’s match at Forfarshire rained off and the guys are just looking forward to getting out there and playing cricket once again.”

Elsewhere this weekend, Carlton have a busy time with a league match at Glenrothes tomorrow and then a home Citylets Scottish Cup semi-final with Arbroath on Sunday.

With Fraser Watts and Omar Ahmad amongst those missing tomorrow, Kyle Macpherson, Ali Shah and young Calum Everett come into the XI to travel to Fife.

Key batman Watts is set to return on Sunday, while former Scotland captain Gordon Drummond is rated 50/50 for that one having missed a couple of recent matches through injury.

Fourth placed Mazars Grange will be looking to bounce back from last week’s loss at Carlton when they host Arbroath.

Their side is set to be unchanged meaning that teenager Andrew Appleton keeps his place after some good showings at this level.

With Heriot’s skipper Keith Morton away at a wedding, Scotland cap Mark Watt is set to lead the Goldenacre men at home to Aberdeenshire. Kevin McLaren comes into the side.

In the Baillie Gifford ESCA Championship, RH Corstorphine skipper Joe Kinghorn-Gray made it to 24 league wickets for the summer last week and tomorrow he leads them away at Carlton II.

Leaders SMRH go to Holy Cross with Stuart&Stuart Penicuik hosting Mazars Grange II. Marchmont are at Dunnikier and Edinburgh travel to Kelso.
