Jason Donovan unites a Million Dollar Quartet

Next week, he completes the hat-trick when he plays the Festival Theatre, where he stars as legendary record producer Sam Phillips in the Tony Award-winning Broadway and West End smash hit Million Dollar Quartet.

The story is simple: On December 4 1956, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins came together for the first and only time to record at Sun Records in Memphis, Tennessee.

Million Dollar Quartet brings that famous meeting to life, featuring a score of more than 20 legendary rock and roll hits, including Blue Suede Shoes, Hound Dog, I Walk The Line and Great Balls of Fire.

As the man who brought the four major talents together, Donovan is joined on stage by Martin Kaye, fresh from the North American tour of the show, as Jerry Lee Lewis, Nicknamed ‘The Killer’, Lewis was rock and roll’s first great wild man, shooting to fame in 1957 with Whole Lotta Shakin’ Going On, followed by Great Balls of Fire, both of which brought him international acclaim.

Robbie Durham, meanwhile, play Johnny Cash, the bass-baritone widely regarded one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century and one of the best-selling music artists of all time. His best-known hits include I Walk the Line, Ring of Fire and A Boy Named Sue.

Matt Wycliffe is Carl Perkins, whose best-known song is the classic Blue Suede Shoes, was known as The king of Rocabilly for epitomising the rockabilly sound.

The cast is completed by Katie Ray as Dyanne.
