Jesse Rae returns with the funky Space Cadets

But there’s much more to the St Boswells’ singer and composer than that one track.

His journey into the music business started in the 70s with a trip to the USA - he was the bassist in a heavy metal band.

There, he teamed up with some of the best American funk musicians of the time, including the late Bernie Worrell, founding member of Parliament-Funkadelic (P-Funk) and Talking Heads collaborator.

Back in the UK In 1981, Rae was reunited with Worrell as part of the P-Funk spin-off Space Cadets. 35 years later, the Space Cadets are still going strong, and at Paradise Palms on Sunday, Rae will be recording new vocal parts for their forthcoming release as part of his live music video show.

He explains, “During my live music video show, I will be singing and search’n and record’n live, new vocal parts for inclusion in the final mix of the track by P-Funk producer and Space Cadets’ leader Nairobi Sailcat.”

The final mix takes place next week in Las Vegas and will be included on the new Space Cadets album.

Rae adds, “The earlier part of the show will feature a song writing workshop with multi-Grammy award-winning producer Jimmy Douglass from the Mix Room in Miami, who has worked with the likes of Justin Timberlake, Farrell and Timberland.

And when it comes to song-writing, Rae himself is no slouch. As a songwriter he is best known the 1982 Odyssey single Inside Out, which reached No 3 in the charts.

In a long and varied career, Rae has supported Adam Ant, seen Over The Sea picked as the new Tartan Army national anthem in 2009 and won a celebrity fan in Roddy Frame, formerly of Aztec Camera. He has also stood for the Scottish Parliament as an independent.

On Sunday, however, it will all be about the music.
