There have been a few dramatic changes on the Royal Mile and this picture taken in 1883 shows some of the most obvious.

While the Heart of Midlothian remains marked out on the cobbled pathway, the changes to the right side of the street are highlighted with the emergence of the High Court, replacing the row of shops and tenements along the road.
