Preview: ETA's Double Bill

Both are ‘very different’ plays by Scottish playwrights, says ETA chairman John McLinden, who also directs Primrose Way.

He continues, “I am delighted to have this opportunity to direct a work by one of Scotland’s most prolific and successful playwrights, Ron Nicol.

“This lovely play taps into the reality of theatre life in a way that anyone involved will recognise.

“Primrose Way recalls her life with the help of her Mother and ‘younger self’. As her life unfolds before our eyes we witness a funny and ultimately moving piece of theatre.”

Iain Kerr, meanwhile directs Writer’s Cramp. He says, “This play has an extraordinary comic style and cuts fast to the heart of things.

“It touches on cultural pretensions in Scottish, and British, society. It recounts the life of Francis Seneca McDade, a boy/man with aspirations sadly beyond his talents.

“Comedy and tragedy sit alongside. John Byrne is the writer of the much loved Slab Boys Trilogy, and Tutti Frutti on TV and had huge success with Writer’s Cramp on the Edinburgh Fringe in 1977.”
