Review: Thriller Live

Now in its 8th year the musical extravaganza charting the unique and extraordinary career of Michael Jackson blasts its way through more than 30 of Jackson’s hit songs.

It pauses briefly en-route to establish each new era or album as the defining moments from his recording catalogue are cleverly re-created.

Free from any unnecessary narrative Thriller Live has a tribute concert feel to it and covers a lifetime of the singers work from the early Jackson 5 singles ABC and Rockin’ Robin, through to the solo success of Beat It, Billie Jean and Man In the Mirror.

There is a noticeable gear change in act two as tracks from the Grammy award winning albums Thriller And Bad feature, much to the delight of the audience.

Lead vocal duties are shared throughout, with the impressive Rory Taylor and Angelica Allen the pick of the bunch, while Gary Lloyd’s hi-energy choreography is brought to life by an extremely talented dance team featuring Sean Christopher, who expertly captures all of Jackson’s signature moves.

The brilliant Thriller Live band crucially provide a flawless backing under the direction of Level 42’s Mike Lindup.

Often dubbed the King of pop, Jackson’s place in popular music culture is assured and it’s not hard to see why during this high octane journey.
