City kebab chef could be best in UK

AN Edinburgh kebab chef has been shortlisted as the best in his trade in Britain.

Besnik Hajdari of Javit’s kebab shop in Gilmerton, is the only Scottish chef shortlisted from hundreds of entrants in the best chef category in the 5th annual British Kebab Awards.

And the Drum Street outlet is no stranger to success, having been named the best kebab shop in Scotland in the 2015 awards.

Six more kebab shops from the Capital are among 10 shortlisted for the best in Scotland in 2017.

Ali Baba on Dalry Road, Hanedan Turkish Restaurant in West Preston Street, the Best Kebab House on Leith Walk, Samsun’s on Ferry Rd, Yeni Restaurant on Hanover Street and Nawroz Restaurant on Potterow are all in the running.

Judges have been selected from across the catering industry and food writers.

Winners who will be revealed on the night of the British Kebab Awards, which will take place at London’s Westminster Park Plaza Hotel on February 26.
