Edinburgh Dungeon will unlock its doors once again this weekend with a series of new safety measures in place to ensure that staff and visitors are kept safe. The measures include temperature checks, social distancing markers and enhanced cleaning.

As lockdown continues to ease, the Dungeon will open from 11am to 4pm, Monday to Sunday, with tours every 15 minutes. Each tour will be limited to eight guests and all must wear a face mask throughout.

General manager Kathryn Angel, says, “We are really looking forward to welcoming guests and delivering thrills once more. We are utilising an extensive range of safety measures, designed to ensure a happy, safe and healthy experience for all. I know our visitor team, plus our resident costumed ‘inmates’, are all looking forward to delivering a much-needed thrill and a memorable experience following the extended lockdown.”

Other post-lockdown measures will see the attraction accept only online bookings only, with visitors required to pre-book a specific time slot for their visit to ensure numbers remain at a safe level throughout the day.

Socially distanced queues will be in place both outside and inside the attraction with the tours through the Dungeon carefully spaced and markers in place to help make this simple. Dungeon staff will also be wearing appropriate items of PPE to allow them to work safely and.fixtures such as clear plastic screens at check-in desks and tills may also be in-place.

Staff and visitors will have their temperature checked at all entrances and there will be enhanced and additional cleaning throughout the day with hygiene stations and hand sanitiser available.

Sadly, to ensure safety, some elements of the Edinburgh Dungeon experience have had to be suspended. Visitors will no longer be able to,hop aboard the Galloway Boat Ride, visit Mary King’s Close or be thrilled by the Drop Dead Ride, all of which have been temporarily closed as the attractions transforms itself a walk through.

The attraction also stresses, "As with any activity post-lockdown, Edinburgh Dungeon asks all visitors to closely observe guidelines, maintain a safe distance from those outside their party and to keep up with good hygiene practices. If they or any of their party displays any symptoms of Covid-19, they are asked to postpone their visit and to contact the site to change the date of their booking at no extra cost."
