For it is possible for the upcoming Easter Bank Holiday (March 25-28) weekend to be everything but egg-shaped.

Why not start your Saturday at the Out of the Blue Flea Market, on Dalmeny Street, where bargain items such as furniture and bric-a-brac are up for grabs (10am-3pm, free).

Or how about a 5k run along Cramond Promenade? The informal event is open to runners of all ages and abilities (9.30am, free, to register visit www.parkrun.org.uk/edinburgh/).

If the kids are looking for some fun, pop along to Summerhall, the former Royal (Dick) Vet School off the Meadows, on Good Friday, for Zoom Club. For youngsters aged up to three, this is a drop-in activity promoting tactile and sensory play (10am-12pm, £4.50).

Perhaps you would enjoy a spot of live music? The Springsteen Sessions will be hitting the stage at the Brunton Theatre, Musselburgh, on Saturday night to cover a selection of The Boss’s famed back catalogue (7.30pm, £14.50/£16.50).

Looking for a laugh? On Sunday night, The Stand, on York Place, is hosting a Bank Holiday special with the comedy likes of Gary Little, Sean Percival and Fern Brady, hosted by Jo Caulfield (8.30pm, £10).
