Stereophonics set for Edinburgh Castle return in summer

Stereophonics, one of the country’s best loved bands have been added to this year’s Castle Concert series, the Evening News can exclusively reveal.

The band, who have scored seven No 1 albums since first topping the album charts in 1997, will come back to perform at Edinburgh Castle on Tuesday 23 July.

Announcing their return, Mark Mackie, director of Castle Concerts says, “It is with great delight we are able to announce Stereophonics are to play the Castle this July. If their last shows there in 2016 were anything to go by, this promises to be a truly special evening and a highlight of the summer, rocking those ramparts.”

The Welsh rock band, fronted by Kelly Jones with Richard Jones on bass, Adam Zindani on rhythm guitar and Jamie Morrison on drums, have now sold more than 8.5 million albums in the UK and continue to be one of the most popular touring bands in Europe.

Their first album, Word Gets Around, was followed by Performance and Cocktails, Just Enough Education to Perform, You Gotta Go There to Come Back, Language. Sex. Violence. Other?, Pull the Pin and Keep Calm And Carry On, all released at two yearly intervals.

After a break of four years they returned with Graffiti on the Train in 2013, after which the two yearly cycle began again Keep the Village Alive, Scream Above the Sounds and Kind.

With 11 studio albums to draw on, the band’s critically acclaimed back catalogue will be drawn on for a greatest hits set at the Castle.

The band have been praised for their live shows, which have led to them being booked to headline slots at many high-profile music festivals, including Leeds and Reading, Glastonbury, Isle of White and Latitude.

Nick Finnigan, Executive Manager of Edinburgh Castle adds, “We are delighted to welcome The Stereophonics this summer to Edinburgh Castle. This is guaranteed to be a special night for Edinburgh audiences as they get to hear the band perform all their hits alongside the iconic backdrop, as once again, Edinburgh Castle transforms into the most impressive entertainment venue in the Capital.”

Stereophonics, who played to sell-out audiences over two nights in 2016, will play the Castle six days after Irish duo The Script appear on the Esplanade on 17 July.

Mackie adds, “Over the years Edinburgh Castle has played host to many international stars such as Rod Stewart, Blondie, Elton John, The Proclaimers, Leonard Cohen, Tom Jones, Deacon Blue, Pink and Kylie.”
